Communications Officer - promote unique sites around Sydney Harbour

About the Organisation

The Sydney Harbour Federation Trust is an Australian Government agency within the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts portfolio. The organisation was set up by the Australian Government to plan for the future of former Defence and special Commonwealth lands around Sydney Harbour. These lands have been hidden away from the community for many years, but will now be conserved for the benefit of present and future generations of Australians. The lands are not to be sold and will remain in public ownership forever.

The Harbour Trust wants to create something truly special for these lands - to enhance the harbour and leave a lasting legacy for Sydney. The lands provide an amazing opportunity; they contain historic buildings and areas of pristine natural vegetation, magnificent views of the harbour and a record of our city's Aboriginal, maritime and defence heritage. The cultural heritage of the lands will be conserved, the environment protected and maximum public access provided.

About the Opportunity

Public awareness of the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust's newly accessible sites around Sydney Harbour is growing, particularly Cockatoo Island's events and campsite; Headland Park Mosman; and North Head Sanctuary. Our new Communications Officer will extend that awareness by further developing our virtual presence; devising promotional campaigns and collateral; interpreting our sites' histories in publications and signage; and assisting with media liaison.
An exciting opportunity exists for a Communications Officer with broad-based skills to join the agency's team in Mosman.

Reporting to the Deputy Director of Communications, the primary purpose of this role is to develop and implement the Harbour Trust's communications and marketing initiatives, whilst using your promotional flair and drive to create new opportunities to attract and inform visitors and exploit the unique nature of the outdoor heritage sites.

You will ideally have a tertiary qualification in an appropriate discipline (communications, marketing, humanities) and solid experience of working in a varied role in a busy communications team.

The Trust is offering the successful applicant a 3 year contract (open to renewal) and remuneration package at Level 6 ranging from $64,916 - $75,128 (depending on experience) + superannuation, in addition to excellent working conditions.
